I have been entranced with taking photographs since the young age of fourteen
when I possessed a Brownie Box camera which I proudly took on the family trip
to Europe. There I captured my first castle turrets and Roman ruins in black & white.
I worked in black and white exclusively for the first fifteen years, well into my twenties.
My twenties, in Marin in the late sixties and seventies provided a series of bathroom apartment darkrooms, making simply the brushing of teeth a challenge at times. I focused then on fine art
images and portraits in black and white.
In the seventies I was deeply involved in life on the waterfront and became a marine photographer chronicling classic wooden boats of all types from Vancouver to San Diego, collecting images in harbors of every size with the passion of a diligent detective. I spent several years in and around
the California commercial fishing industry and enjoyed photography of the characters that
populated it, as well as it's vessels. I also shot in color then.
1976 took me to family life in Sonoma County where I began a now twenty three year love affair with the Chosen Landscape. My goal is to make and share images that are quintessentially
California, for those who know this land.
Sales work for my greeting card company Nautilus Productions, has also taken me to regions the state over and along the back roads of California, where I am at peace with my camera, always seeking the magical light.
